What is R2V3 certification?

R2v3 (Responsible Recycling version 3) is a globally recognized certification standard for electronics recyclers, developed by SERI (Sustainable Electronics Recycling International). R2v3 certifies recycling facilities — not individual products — ensuring they meet rigorous standards for environmental responsibility, data security, and worker safety. Equipment processed by certified facilities is graded across two dimensions: Functional (F1–F6) and Cosmetic (C1–C9).

What does F1 mean?

F1 designates Collectible or Specialty Equipment as defined by R2V3 Core Requirement 6(e)(3)(A). Collectibles are rare, vintage, and no longer manufactured or supported by the original equipment manufacturer. Specialty equipment includes rare and specialized devices not generally available in retail. Items in this category may have broken or missing parts and are inspected and determined to be viable for reuse or parts. Data has been sanitized or the device is free of data storage media.
